It began with a sketch highlighting Slow Food’s iconic red snail’s love of all of the wonderful local food and provisions.
I grew up across the street from a magical private farm that inspired me to explore horses (of course!) and to have a curiosity and admiration for all the farmy goodness that they had on the property.
Years later, as time slowed down during the pandemic, I re-prioritized and developed my core passions and I made the time to to learn the skills to support those passions: drawing, hand lettering, enjoying home cooked food and tasting natural wine. I acquired my WSET Level 2 certificate in wines and I took as many classes as I could to work on my drawing skills.
I am enamored by our wonderful local farmers markets and by the restaurants and establishments that care so deeply to serve and highlight local provisions, produce and wine.
Im very happy to be part of Slow Food NYC’s behind the scenes as an Associate Board Member.
Slow Food NYC’s mission is to make good, clean and fair food accessible to all New Yorkers. By purchasing a ticket to a Slowfood NYC event or donating, you support a calendar of accessible and low-cost community events, the Snail of Approval certification program which is a coveted award given to restaurants, farmers and establishments who exemplify the Slow Food NYC requirements and this global movement that originated in Piedmont, Italy by Carlo Petrini.
This year I was involved in the creation of assets for SnailFest, as the illustrator of their menu and a BIG tote bag….along with what ended up being just a stab at the beginnings of a catalogue of illustrations of the MANY fruits and veggies available to us…
